Relational Maturity

"It is not possible to be spiritually mature without being relationally mature. Nobody can lay hands on us and impart maturity. Spending hours in prayer and Bible study is no guarantee of maturity or integrity. When we’re alone in prayer, we may feel peaceful, calm, at one with God and ourselves. When we’re worshipping together, we may easily feel connected to our community. When we’re on our own, we might feel like we’re pretty well healed and whole. But when we get into a messy conflict with someone close to us, when we feel hurt and misunderstood, then we truly have the opportunity to love. Without moments like that, our love remains theoretical." - Kelly Muhonen
